Tumbleweed North is designed for campers that are entering grades 3 through 6. This program focuses on making friends, gaining independence, and being able to share the responsibilities of working as a team through various traditional and unique day camp activities.
Typical Day at Tumbleweed North:
A typical day at Tumbleweed North consists of Morning Pow-Wow, followed by five periods of various traditional and unique day camp activities. Swimming and lunch occur daily. We try to schedule major activities on two consecutive days to accommodate the day combinations available to all campers. Activities also alternate between high and low energy. The day ends with snack and Afternoon Pow-Wow, where campers enjoy skits and performances as they get ready for transportation home.
Activities Include:
Archery- An example of a traditional camp activity, campers love getting the chance to use a bow and arrow. Through archery, campers learn the value of practice, patience, and consistent effort.
Horseback Riding- Our Wranglers teach campers the fundamentals of good horsemanship at our equestrian center through trail rides and ring work.
Swimming- Whether practicing strokes or playing a game of water polo, campers get the opportunity to swim everyday in our heated pool. All our life guards and instructors are Red-Cross certified.
Challenge Course- This activity allows campers to climb to new heights in a safe environment with plenty of challenge. On the challenge course, campers develop trust, team work, leadership, and self-confidence.
Inflatable Obstacle Course- Our 40’ long Obstacle Course is many of our campers’ favorite activity where they race each other over hills and through tunnels.
Outdoor Living Skills- This program focuses on the respect and appreciation for nature around us. Here campers will learn orienteering, Leave No Trace outdoor ethics, hiking and camping, and the survival skills of California’s Native Americans.
Dirt Doggies- Campers enjoy these human powered scooters built for mountain trails.
